Review of the Rowan Merilee Pants
The Merilee 5 Pocket Pants are new at Rowan this year and already a fan favorite selling out in the dusky navy color. (But I heard an insider rumor that they will be coming back in new colors, too!) With a soft subtly stretching canvas, the Merilee pants are tailored to fit perfectly at the waist and eliminate that pesky back gap. They are a classic high rise and hit at my ankle.
Sizing is loose especially in the faded black colorway which runs a bit large - so I went down one size. Take your regular size in the other colors unless you like a very fitted waist. I love the back pocket placement which looks great in the back, too.

The Barrel Shape
The silhouette is the most interesting part of these pants. At first glance, they look like a classic straight jean - straight all the way from the hip to the ankle rather than tapered. But if you look up close, they have a unique dart placed at the knee that gives them a very subtle swinging curve inward.
I think this is such a cool under-the-radar take on the current barrel jean trend that is growing in popularity right now. But what I like about Rowan's version is how understated the shape is. And that makes these jeans a timeless pick you can wear for years even after the barrel trend is out.

Rowan is a California lifestyle brand with a flagship store in San Diego. The brand is founded on family and donates 1% to the National Fatherhood Foundation. I also appreciate their commitment to fairly making their classic quality pieces. Their beautiful range of organic earthy neutrals is designed for everyday living but is full of unique details that really set each piece apart.
